Everett packs roughly 14,600 people into each of its three and a half square miles, so finding legal truck space is the first problem of the day. Broadway is the spine that carries the city north to south, Ferry Street runs the valley between the hills on the east side, and Sweetser Circle and Santilli Circle are where Route 16 knots up. On residential blocks we look at driveway staging first, since Everett zoning requires two off-street spaces per unit and there is often more usable room behind the house than in front of it. Where the truck has to sit on the street we walk the carry path beforehand, so nobody is pacing it out for the first time on the morning.

The permits that touch a move are these. Occupying part of a public way to load falls under a street and sidewalk obstruction permit from the DPW Engineering Division, which carries a $75 application fee, a $100 obstruction permit fee, a $5,000 street opening bond and a $1,000,000 certificate of insurance. Dropping a POD or container in the public way is a separate application, filed in person at Engineering, and it needs signatures from Engineering, Police and Fire. Start either one well ahead, because City Hall is closed Friday through Sunday.

There is also a sticker rule that surprises people. A box truck cannot get an Everett resident parking sticker at all, and a commercial vehicle has to be under 10,000 lbs with no more than four wheels to qualify for one. Everett holds two very different kinds of building in a small area. In the two- and three-families that make up most of the city there is no property manager to clear anything with, and the constraints are all physical: how wide the stairs run, how tight the landing turns, whether a given piece makes the corner at all. We measure the awkward item before move day instead of on it.

In the managed buildings around Lower Broadway and the Commercial Triangle, expect the standard mid-rise routine of a certificate of insurance naming the owner and manager, a reserved service elevator, and a loading area with a time window on it. Those rules come from your building, not from the city, and Everett publishes nothing central to check them against. Forward whatever management sends you and we return the COI ahead of the date.

Street sweeping is the rule that tows cars. The season runs April 1 through November 30, blocks are posted by side and by week, and the city states plainly that vehicles parked in violation are ticketed and towed. That window covers nearly all of moving season, so we check your block's posted day before setting an arrival time.

Winter changes which side of the street you can use. When a snow parking ban is declared, the permitted side is set by the year the season ends, and for the 2026 season that is the even side. Main arteries including Broadway, Ferry Street, Main Street, Elm Street and Chelsea Street go to no parking at all for the duration of a ban, and space savers are prohibited by city ordinance.

September is the crowded month. Most Boston-area leases turn over at the start of it and Everett sits inside that regional cycle, so book several weeks ahead for a date near September 1. Midweek and mid-month dates are easier to get and usually run cheaper.

Sunday is the one most people get wrong. Everett's parking ordinance (Chapter 18, section 18-139(d)) bars any truck of one ton or over, and any vehicle with six wheels or more, from parking on a public way in a dwelling or apartment zone at any time on Sundays and holidays. The one-hour allowance for deliveries and pick-ups is written into the overnight window only, not into the Sunday rule. A driveway or an off-street space is private, so Sunday moves here are worked around off-street staging instead of a spot at the curb.
