Moving from Boston to California with Move & Care generally takes 5 to 8 days.
Your move begins early with Boston movers, with the team loading your items before sunrise. From there, the truck will travel through a series of interstate routes—likely portions of I-90, I-80, and I-70 or similar corridors—crossing dozens of counties in pursuit of the Pacific.
Deliveries are often made between Day 5 and Day 8, depending on the size of the move, how many stops are scheduled, and the conditions at your new address in California (e.g. elevator access, permits).
Every day your coordinator sends a GPS update so you always know where the truck is and when to expect it—whether it’s arriving in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, or anywhere else across the Golden State.
The truck’ll face sunshine, beaches, and mountains. That means the packing plan needs to be tailored to potentially harsh conditions. Meanwhile, there's no need to worry! We seal electronics, art, winter coats and fragile items in climate-controlled sections or moisture-proof containers if you’d like.
Boston’s narrow streets can make the loading process hard, so we’ll help with parking permits. In California, each city has its own rules — Los Angeles often needs a Temporary No Parking permit from LADOT, while San Francisco file an SFMTA Tow-Away Zone permit about five business days ahead. Don’t stress about it — we’ve helped with permits many times and will walk you through it.
On top of that, California’s law says you are to update your driver’s-license address within 10 days of arrival—do it online with the CA DMV.
Moving something massive? For non-reducible oversize loads, apply for a Caltrans transportation permit in advance.
Your coordinator — an FMCSA-certified interstate specialist — starts with a quick video survey to log every item, adjust services to your budget and plan the route. We approve the Boston moving and parking permits required for loading. If you’ve ordered packing supplies from us, they’ll arrive within the week. For cross-country moves, we schedule an early-morning departure to avoid downtown congestion and keep you ahead of traffic on I-90.
Depending on the packing option a move’s cost and time may vary — the final cost will be written on your quote.
Our team pads, shrink-wraps, and bar-codes each item before loading it onto our air-ride-equipped truck. Two licensed drivers take shifts along the route to California, following FMCSA rest and service-hour regulations. You’ll receive nightly GPS updates on progress. If road closures, wildfires, or weather advisories arise, we adjust the route to stay on schedule.
By the time we reach California, your coordinator will have already arranged COI. Our team reassembles furniture, sets up your space how you want it, and clears all packing materials before the final walkthrough.
If you find some items damaged or missing, contact our manager right away. You are protected with basic insurance included in moving services.
