*Ranges are average full-service cross-country pricing; your ultimate price is a custom flat-rate quote based on your actual inventory, access, and services.
You get a clear, all-inclusive flat-rate quotation based on your real inventory and route. Usually included: truck, crew, fuel, tolls, cross-country mileage, basic insurance, blankets, dolly, tools, and the $50 equipment charge. We can also prepare the COI your New York building needs.
Your estimate pricing is set for the authorized merchandise and services. No hidden charges.
If you want to know how much movers cost in San Francisco for a cross-country move, the biggest thing will be distance — a coast-to-coast haul is a different job than a local relocation. The second greatest thing will be the size of your shipment, then packaging needs, then access at both ends and any specific items. Because it crosses state boundaries, it is charged as a flat-rate long-haul move, not hourly.
When preparing your estimate, we take into account your route distance, inventory volume, San Francisco stairs and hills, New York elevator or walk-up access, specialty items such as pianos, safes, or gym equipment, and added services such as packing, unpacking, or storage to bridge a gap between your lease dates. Hoisting is $40 per item per flight if the item will not fit the stairs or elevator.

Sample San Francisco to New York City Moving Timeline
A move from San Francisco to New York City isn’t a same-day or next-day task like a local move. Honest scheduling is more important than a promised hour — it’s a multi-day cross-country haul with a delivery window.
Loading begins in San Francisco, during the 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. timeframe the city permits for movers and around any reserved curb space. From then the road turns east along I-80 — some 2,900 miles across the Sierra Nevada, the Rockies, and the Plains before reaching the New York metro region.
At the New York end, date of delivery depends on COI approval, your freight-elevator reservation, and whether the truck can get to the loading dock or service door — things that change the schedule significantly more than mileage for co-ops, condominiums, and high-rises.
Your relocation coordinator stays in touch so you know when the truck is loaded, when it is on the road, and the window when delivery is due in New York.
What to Know Before Moving from San Francisco to New York City
Both ends of this trip are cities with space constraints, so plan the access, not simply the drive.
SFMTA provides Temporary No-Parking signs to reserve curb space for a moving truck in San Francisco. The signs must be put up at least 72 hours before enforcement in unmetered areas (24 hours for metered spots), and the agency asks for around five business days to approve a request. The customer is responsible for the permit, and we plan truck placement and scheduling around it. The city’s dense, older multi-family stock — Victorian and Edwardian flats, walk-ups, steep and narrow streets — generally means stairs, no elevator, and a longer carry from the truck.
Most large buildings in New York won’t allow movers in without a COI, and co-ops and condos may additionally require board approval, an elevator reservation, and certain move-in hours. Luxury co-ops sometimes have greater liability limits and require the building and managing agent to be designated as additional insured. We’ll get that document to your building’s specs before it’s delivered so the move isn’t turned away at the door.
Weather is a transit concern along this route more than a city issue. San Francisco remains temperate, but the I-80 mountain and plains section can bring snow and ice from late fall through early spring. New York winters average around 30 inches of snow a year, with frigid January lows. For electronics, art, and temperature-sensitive goods, we wrap and load with that long transit in mind.
Big or specialty? Got something? Let us know now. On a haul this long, items like pianos, safes, pool tables, gym equipment, or anything over 200 pounds may require more staff, supplementary protection, or a custom handling plan.
The Moving Process (San Francisco to New York City)
Preparation
We begin with a review of your inventory and the creation of a service plan. What is moving, what requires packing, access limitations at both ends, and does your New York building require a COI or elevator reservation? We tell you whether it makes sense to get a curb permit for your San Francisco street. If you need packing services, we can pack for you, in whole or in part, before the move date.
Your estimate clearly demonstrates the final scope. Packing level, specific items, and building access at either end might affect timing and the price.
Moving Day
The furniture is protected with shrink wrap and pads. Everything is inventoried and loaded for cross-country travel and an ordered unload. This move crosses state lines, thus it falls under our interstate (federal) jurisdiction – USDOT #3212621 and MC #1018431, verified via FMCSA’s SAFER system.
We view a long-distance move as a single, cohesive project beginning with box one. We plot the course, log the inventory, coordinate both buildings, and keep communication going from start to completion.
Delivery & Unpacking
We unload the shipment in New York, set up furniture in the proper rooms, and reassemble standard goods, all while taking care of your building’s COI approval, elevator reservation, and dock or service-door access. If you added unpacking, we remove the packing materials and boxes after setup.
Please notify our office immediately of any damaged or missing items. It is advisable to submit a Damage Report before the team leaves, and any damage identified later must be documented within 96 hours. The transfer includes Basic Released Value Protection, which restricts responsibility to 60 cents per pound per product; Full Value Protection is available at an extra price.
