About Bouldin Creek (Austin, TX)
Bouldin Creek is an area in central south Austin, right below downtown. It’s known for being easy to get to on foot and for being close to major South Austin corridors. There are well-known local spots and green areas in the neighborhood, such as:
- Auditorium Shores (near the lakefront)
- The Long Center for the Performing Arts
- Lester E. Palmer Community Events Center
- West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt
- Nicholas Dawson Park
For official city planning references (maps and adopted plan resources for the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Planning Area), see the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Plans and Resources page. It links to the Bouldin Creek plan materials and the Future Land Use Map (FLUM).
Road & route realities (planning your move)
Because Bouldin Creek is right next to both downtown and the lake, how and when trucks can get in and out of the area is important. In practical terms, moves here are often shaped by these corridors:
- South Congress Avenue and South 1st Street are the main north-south roads that lead to the Lady Bird Lake crossings, so peak-hour traffic can slow arrival windows. (These streets are referenced on the City’s Bouldin Creek planning-area map materials.) City of Austin FLUM.
- South Lamar Boulevard and Barton Springs Road are important roads that connect the west and north sides of the planning area; traffic and turning constraints can influence where a moving truck can stage safely. City of Austin FLUM.
- Oltorf Street marks the southern edge of the neighborhood and is often used to approach from South Austin; depending on the time of day, it can be faster than cutting through downtown-adjacent streets. BCNA boundaries.
Building & access realities (what we plan for)
The City’s future land use mapping shows that Bouldin Creek has a mix of residential and denser-use areas per the City’s future land use mapping (single-family areas alongside multifamily/mixed-use/commercial areas). City of Austin FLUM (land-use categories). In moving terms, that usually means planning for:
- Single-family homes where the distance and protection needs are shaped by driveway placement and curb staging.
- Apartments/condos and mixed-use buildings where elevators, stairs, loading rules, COIs, and reserved curb space can impact timing and cost.
Moving Process in Bouldin Creek
Moving with Move & Care is straightforward: preparation, moving day, and after the move. What makes a Bouldin Creek move faster and smoother are the details below.
1. Preparation
After you request an estimate and pick a moving date, the next steps depend on whether you want full packing, partial packing, or DIY packing. Start by reading our packing guide; you should begin at least a week before your move.
Before moving day, here are three logistics items that frequently affect moves in Bouldin Creek that you should confirm:
- Truck access and staging plan: Choose the best place to stage (driveway, alley, or curb), and make a note of any tight turns or low-clearance areas that are close to your building.
- Parking rules and reserved space (if needed): The City of Austin provides a Right of Way Parking Permit process if you need to temporarily reserve curb space, occupy metered spaces, load/unload in the right of way, or place a moving/storage container. The City notes lead times (submit at least 3 business days in advance; payment at least 2 business days in advance). Official permit guidance.
- Lane/sidewalk impacts (rare, but important): If your move requires any travel lane/sidewalk/parking lane closures or significant right-of-way setup, the City may require a Temporary Use of Right of Way Permit (TURP). The City’s TURP considerations document lists right-of-way use and closures as a permit use-case and provides the department contact email for scope questions. Austin Transportation TURP considerations (PDF).
If you’re not sure which permit (if any) applies to your address, it’s best to check with the City resources listed above—especially if you’re planning to reserve curb space or place a container on the street.
2. The Move
The crew arrives at the scheduled time on moving day, confirms the plan with you, protects high-traffic paths, and then starts loading. If packing is part of the service, we pack and label rooms, disassemble furniture as needed, pad-wrap items, and load the truck to minimize shifting. We’ll coordinate a storage stop en route if you have one (moving and storage options are available).
3. After the Move
At delivery, we unload into the rooms you specify, reassemble furniture, and place large items where you want them. Then you do a walkthrough to confirm everything arrived safely. If you want unpacking support, we can include that in your plan.
About Pricing
There are two main types of Move & Care pricing: hourly rates for local moves and flat rates for long-distance/interstate moves. Your final cost will rely on how much inventory you have, how much you pack, how far you have to carry it, whether you need stairs or an elevator, and whether reserved parking or special access coordination is needed.
If you need to move and have a limited staging area (common near the lakefront and major corridors), requesting an estimate early helps lock in the best time window and avoid last-minute access issues.
More About PricingF.A.Q. about moving in Bouldin Creek
Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).
Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we
determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the
number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly
rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.
Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be
determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time
(we take into account 15 minute increments).
