About Oak Hill (Austin, TX)
West Oak Hill and East Oak Hill are both in the Oak Hill neighborhood planning area, which is in the southwest part of Austin. On the official neighborhood plan portal, you can find city planning tools and maps.
Local “micro-areas” are important to think about when moving here because traffic and entry can change from block to block. People who live in the Oak Hill planning area often talk about neighborhoods like Scenic Brook, Windmill Run, Sendera, Village of Western Oaks, and Westcreek. All of these names appear in City of Austin Oak Hill planning documentation.
Setting up a route is just as important. City planning documents note that the “Y” in Oak Hill connects the area’s main highways (US 290 and SH 71), and also call out local cut-through patterns and geometric constraints on some connector streets. For instance, the Oak Hill plan implementation tracking chart describes Silvermine as a narrow, winding road with blind curves and steep hills that connects SH 71 and US 290 and provides access to nearby neighborhoods.
Lastly, big construction projects can change the timing of a move. US 290 (from around Circle Drive toward Loop 1/MoPac) and SH 71 (from US 290 toward Silvermine Drive) are included in TxDOT’s Oak Hill Parkway project scope. If you can be flexible with your move date, we suggest adding extra buffer to arrival windows in case of lane shifts, detours, delays, or heavy traffic.

Moving Process in Oak Hill (Southwest Austin)
Moving with Move & Care is straightforward: preparation, move day, and setup. Access, staging, and timing are the parts of Oak Hill moves that usually make or break them.
1. Preparation
Once you request an estimate and confirm a move date, we finalize the plan based on your service level. If you add packing services, we can pack and protect your things on a schedule that works for you. If you’re packing yourself, use our packing guide and start at least a week before move day.
Before moving day, you should check three items specific to Oak Hill logistics:
- Access + building constraints: Confirm stairs vs. elevator access, door/gate codes, loading areas, and whether your community has move-in hours. In hilly areas, also consider steep driveways and tight turning radii for larger trucks.
- Route realism: If you’ll use the “Y” (US 290 / SH 71) or connectors like Silvermine, plan around peak congestion and be aware the City describes some streets as winding/steep with limited margins. If TxDOT work is active on your route, check the Oak Hill Parkway updates and allow extra time.
- Parking + permits (verify before you reserve space): For small residential moves where a truck can stage on a private driveway or private lot, a City permit is often not required. However, if a truck must occupy or close any portion of the public right of way (travel lane, sidewalk, or parking lane), the City of Austin uses a Temporary Use of Right of Way Permit (TURP). Start with the official TURP page and contact the Right of Way team if your situation isn’t clearly covered: City of Austin – TURP (see also the TURP considerations PDF).
If anything is unclear, ask your move coordinator. A five-minute access check can prevent an hour of delays on move day.
2. The Move
When our crew arrives on time, we confirm walk paths and staging with you and then get to work. If included, we pack and protect items, disassemble furniture, wrap it with moving blankets, and load the truck efficiently. If storage is part of your plan, we can coordinate a stop at a storage unit as needed.
3. After the Move
At the destination, we place items in pre-labeled rooms, reassemble furniture, and complete unload efficiently so you can settle in faster. Then you inspect your belongings for condition and completeness before we wrap up.
About Pricing
We base our pricing on two common move types: hourly rates for most local moves and flat rates for long-distance moves. Your final estimate depends on inventory, access details (stairs/elevators/walk distance), truck parking/staging, and timing windows.
More About PricingF.A.Q. about moving in Oak Hill
Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).
Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we
determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the
number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly
rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.
Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be
determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time
(we take into account 15 minute increments).
