About Needham, MA

Needham is a well-known suburb of Boston that has a clear downtown area, nice areas, and easy access to the commuter rail. The Town of Needham lists four Needham Line stops on its official transportation page. These are Needham Heights, Needham Center, Needham Junction, and Hersey. According to town planning documents, Avery Square and the area around Highland Avenue are also busy places in the city.

On moving day, that neighborhood layout will matter. Needham planning papers call Needham Center a mixed-use local downtown. However, other town housing documents show that most of the homes in Needham are still single-family homes. In reality, this means that many moves here are still simple driveway-access house moves. However, downtown and station-area addresses may need more care with timing, truck placement, and curb access.

Needham cares about how routes are planned. According to the Town's Envision Needham Center materials, there is a very small public right-of-way on Great Plain Avenue between Warren Street and Linden Street that goes through the center. When trains are moving through, there are different town traffic documents that say the lines for cars going east on Great Plain Avenue can go all the way to the railroad crossing near Needham Center. Another important road to plan around is Highland Avenue. The town of Needham and MassDOT are working on a project to connect Highland Avenue to Needham Street from Webster Street in Needham to Route 9 in Newton. As part of this work, traffic lights have been changed at intersections like Highland / West, Highland / Webster, and Highland / 1st.

Moving Process in Needham, MA

There are three parts to moving with Move and Care: getting ready, moving, and after the move.

It's a simple process, but there are a few things you should know about Needham before you start.

1. Preparation

After you request an estimate and confirm your date, the next steps will depend on the services you pick.

Packing is the most important thing to do before the move. We can pack everything or just the parts you need help with if you use our packing service. Before you leave, start packing early and use our packing guide to keep track of everything.

Before you move, you should also look into a few things about the area:

  1. Does your property have any access rules? This is especially important to make sure of if you are moving into or out of a more crowded area near Needham Center, Needham Heights, or Avery Square, as curb space and building access may not be as flexible as with a standard driveway move.
  2. Will your move affect the public way? Needham's DPW FAQ says that storage containers can't be in the street, but they do need a permit if they're on private property. There is an Overnight Parking Permit and a Street Permitting Guide on the Town's permits page. The Town's rules say that you need a Street Occupancy Permit before you can do any work on a public way. If the way your truck is set up might get in the way of people walking or driving, you should call Needham DPW ahead of time.
  3. Has the route and timing been planned? In Needham, timing can be more important than you think on Great Plain Avenue through the center and Highland Avenue. This is especially true when traffic is heavy or when rail activity affects the downtown crossing.

Talk to your moving manager if you don't know what applies to your home. We do more than just load and unload. We also help with planning.

2. The Move

Our movers show up at the agreed upon time on moving day and get to work. If packing is included, they do it in front of you. They also take apart furniture as needed, use moving blankets and wrap to protect things, and carefully load the truck.

The crew will then follow the route plan to get to your new home and finish the move. We can add a stop at a storage unit to the plan ahead of time if that's what you need.

3. After the Move

The movers will unload your things and put them in the rooms you tell them to in the new place. We can also put bigger things where you want them and put together furniture again. You can add unpacking help to your service, and we can do that too.

You will have time to check your items and make sure they came as expected before the job is done.

About Pricing

There are two types of prices at Move and Care: hourly rates and flat rates. For local moves, hourly rates are used. For long distance moves, flat rates are used.

The final price for moving in Needham can change depending on things like volume, packing, stairs, taking apart furniture, and trip distance, as well as the ease of access in the area. A simple driveway pickup from a single-family home is not the same as a move that needs more careful timing in the middle, tighter truck placement, or planning ahead because the setup may affect the street or sidewalk.

F.A.Q. about moving in Needham, MA

Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).

Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.

Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time (we take into account 15 minute increments).

Find out more on our pricing page.

Move and Care provides two types of insurance. Basic insurance (Released Value Protection) - this is free and is included by default in any of our services. Move and Care guarantees liability for no more than 60 cents per pound per item. And Full Value Protection - this insurance means that any damage is fully covered, but there is an additional charge.

The movers will not transport perishable products, nor will they transport any hazardous objects. We also do not transport plants or weapons, and our services do not include animal transportation.
