NYC Building Requirements and COIs
New York City property managers block moves if they do not have a Certificate of Insurance (COI) on file before the moving date. A missing document should not delay your move. Move and Care generates the required COI as soon as you provide the property manager's details.
Get ahead of it: Share your property manager's contact details and building rules as early as possible. The sooner we have them, the faster we can generate the COI and lock in your freight elevator reservation.
(Note: Large moving trucks may require special routing and permits; see the NYC DOT over-dimensional vehicle rules for details).
Boston Street Occupancy Permits
Heavy furniture in tight, historic streets like Beacon Hill or the North End creates unnecessary friction. A long walk from the truck adds time and risk to any move—and navigating low clearances without hitting them, or "Storrowing" a truck on Storrow Drive, requires advance planning.
Your responsibility: Move & Care can advise you on truck sizing and logistics, but securing curb space is your responsibility. Boston requires a Street Occupancy Permit to reserve space for the moving truck. The base fee is $69 and the permit must be posted 48 hours in advance. Pulling this permit keeps your load distance short and prevents expensive parking tickets. Apply early—check Boston moving truck permit requirements well in advance of move day.
How Much Does It Cost to Move from NYC to Boston?

You pay a standard $50 equipment fee for blankets and dollies, with a 5% discount for cash payments.
