Moving Process in Matthews, NC
Before the move, during the move, and after the move are the three parts of moving with Move & Care. The process is easy in general, but Matthews addresses often have details that you should look over ahead of time.
1. Preparation
As soon as you agree to the estimate and set a date for the move, you can start getting ready. Packing is the most important thing to do before the move. If you use our packing service, we can do the packing for you, either the day before or on the day of the move. If you are going to be packing by yourself, read our packing guide and start at least a week early.
Before moving day, you should also look over a few Matthews-only questions:
- What are the rules for getting into your property? A lot of moves in Matthews are still normal house moves, but some addresses are in townhome communities, mixed-use areas, or places where curb access is tighter. Find out ahead of time about truck access, gate codes, HOA rules, loading directions, and any elevator or building reservation requirements.
- How are things with parking? We could not find an official Town page that talked about a general residential moving permit for Matthews. The Town does put out parking rules and places where rental or moving vans can park while they load and unload. If you are going to an address in the downtown area or anywhere else with posted time limits, you should check curb access ahead of time and, if necessary, also check with your HOA, landlord, or property manager. The Town resources worth checking are Chapter 72 - Stopping, Standing, or Parking and Off-Street Parking and Loading Requirements.
- Do you need to plan the route’s timing? Give yourself a timing buffer if your move is dependent on US 74 / Independence Boulevard, I-485, NC 51 / Matthews Township Parkway, or East John Street. This is especially helpful for people who need to leave early in the morning, come back after work, or make stops downtown where a short delay can change the availability of parking.
- Has everything been planned for the move? Use our moving checklist to make sure you do not forget utilities, change-of-address tasks, or the last few things you need on moving day.
If you are not sure about any part of the plan, talk to your moving manager. We offer more than just movers and trucks. We also help customers plan their moves around the actual conditions at the property.
2. The Move
When moving day comes, our crew shows up at the time we agreed on, goes over the plan with you, and then gets to work. If packing is part of the deal, we carefully pack the rest of the things. Then, if we need to, we take apart furniture, cover it with moving blankets and other materials, and load the truck in a way that makes unloading go more quickly.
Route and dispatch are more important to Matthews moves than most people think. When planning a trip that includes Independence Boulevard, I-485, Matthews Township Parkway, or East John Street, we do not just take the fastest route on the map because we think that will be the best one. Instead, we plan around the real conditions. We can also add a stop at a storage unit along the way if that is what you need.
3. After the Move
Our movers unload the truck, put the things you tell them to in the rooms you choose, and reassemble furniture if that is part of the service. We can also help you unpack if that is part of the plan. This is true whether you are going to a subdivision home, a townhome, or a smaller address in town. The goal is to get everything in order quickly and safely so you do not have to deal with the hardest part on your own.
You or your designated contact can look over the items and make sure everything got where it should before we leave. That last check is part of making sure the move is clear and organized from start to finish.
About Pricing
There are two main types of pricing at Move & Care: hourly rates and flat estimates. Local moves in Matthews and the Charlotte area, as well as moves up to about 150 miles from Charlotte, are usually priced by the hour. Long-distance moves, such as those within North Carolina and South Carolina as well as interstate moves across the USA, are usually estimated using flat rates.
The total cost will rely on the size of the move, how many movers are required, how much packing needs to be done, the distance, and how easy or hard it is to access both addresses. When parking is scarce, the property is located in a tighter downtown area, or the trip uses busy roads like US 74, I-485, or NC 51, access conditions in Matthews can have a bigger impact on time than customers think.
To get a good estimate right away, it is best to request one early on and be as specific as possible about where you want to be picked up and dropped off.
More About PricingF.A.Q. about moving in Matthews, NC
Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).
Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we
determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the
number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly
rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.
Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be
determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time
(we take into account 15 minute increments).
