About South Charlotte, NC
South Charlotte is one of the busiest and fastest-growing areas in the region. It's known for its big hubs, like SouthPark and Ballantyne, and its easy access to Pineville and other nearby towns. Established neighbourhoods and newer projects are mixed together, so your move could take you to a gated community or a busy shopping corridor.
Major roads like I-485 and I-77 make getting around pretty easy, but traffic can build up fast during rush hour and on the weekends when people are shopping. We'll help you choose the best times to move if your date is open. We plan around the choke points instead of saying they don't exist if it isn't.
People who need to get to work can also use public transportation in some parts of South Charlotte. The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) runs the LYNX light rail and bus service. It also runs park-and-ride lots like the I-485/South Blvd Station.
South Charlotte locals use Mecklenburg County's parks and greenway network to enjoy the outdoors. These include greenways like the Upper McAlpine Creek corridor. Through Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation and their greenways resources, you can look at official maps and trails.
🏙️ Helpful local resources: City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, CMPD incident data (Open Data), and NCDOT DriveNC traffic are all helpful local tools.
The Process of Moving in South Charlotte
In general, this is how your move with Move and Care goes. It's just prep work, moving day, and setting up after the move. The structure stays the same, but the details count.
1. Preparation
Once you accept the price and book the move, we'll confirm the date, time, access instructions, and inventory. We plan ahead for apartment rules like lifts, loading docks and limited truck room that come with moving in South Charlotte.
The next big step is to pack. Depending on the size and difficulty of the job, we can pack on the day of the move or a day or two before. If you're packing by yourself, use our packing guide to get things done quickly and avoid the "random junk drawer box"
Tip: When moving long distances, it's even more important to pack well. Because your things are moving around more and the roads aren't always smooth, they need to be protected and labelled.
Parking and getting to the street can be important, especially when moving from an apartment or in an area with a lot of people close to a major road. If your moving truck will be in the public right-of-way, you may need a pass from the city. Through its Right-of-Way Use Permits resources, the City of Charlotte helps people.
We'll still get as close as we can if parking isn't reserved ahead of time. But getting legal access that is safe can take time and may change the cost. Planning is better than rushing.
Use our moving checklist to stay on top of things and avoid a mess at the last minute.
2. Move
When moving day comes, our crew shows up on time, goes over the plan, and finds the best spot to load the things. To lower the risk of damage during shipping, we protect and pad furniture, take things apart when needed, and load them in a planned way.
❗Pay attention: Please note that we do not move people, animals, plants, dangerous chemicals, or goods that go bad quickly.
As soon as it's loaded, we'll go to your location. We plan stops ahead of time to keep the day on schedule, whether they are for storage, another address, or stage.
No matter how far away your stuff is, you'll always know where it is thanks to the GPS tracking sensors on our trucks.
3. After the move
When we arrive, you tell us how to unload, and we put boxes by room, put furniture back together, and put things where you want them. We can also help with unpacking if you want.
Before we finish, we give you time to look over the things and write down any problems right away.
In case of damage or loss of items: If you lose or break something, please report it with pictures and let your moving manager know right away so that we can take care of it quickly.
About Moving Prices
How much it costs to move to or from South Charlotte relies on how far you're going, how easy it is to get there (stairs, lifts, long walks), and what kind of service you need (packing, storage, speciality items).
- Local Moving: moves less than 150 miles away are usually charged by the hour.
- Long-Distance Moving: Moves more than 150 miles away are usually charged at a flat rate.
- Moving and Storage: You will be charged every month for storage, which includes moving things into and out of the building.
Consumer tip: Household goods movers in North Carolina are controlled by the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) for moves within the state. If you're looking at different movers, you should read the NCUC's approved moving guide: NCUC Moving Guide. You can also use the U.S. DOT’s official resources for interstate moves: FMCSA Protect Your Move.
F.A.Q. about moving in South Charlotte
Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).
Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we
determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the
number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly
rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.
Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be
determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time
(we take into account 15 minute increments).
