About Georgetown, TX

Georgetown has both a traditional center and neighborhoods that are growing quickly. People who move here often choose between older areas close to the city center and newer master-planned communities farther away. Some common places we serve include:

Route and road facts (put these in your moving window):

  • I-35 is Georgetown’s main north–south highway; to get to neighborhoods, you often have to go through big interchanges.
  • SH 29 (W. University Ave) is an important east–west route and a popular way to get to I-35.
  • Williams Dr / RM 2338 is another important local road that often links neighborhoods to I-35 and business centers.

Things about building and access that you should bring up right away: Older streets and areas with lots of mature trees close to the historic center may have tighter turns and more on-street parking. In newer neighborhoods, there may be a HOA or gated entry system, limited street space, and set times for moving in. If you’re moving close to Southwestern University, keep in mind that parking and traffic patterns can change during events and move-in times. Southwestern is in Georgetown and has online school directions.

🅿️ Downtown parking note: There is free parking on the streets around the Square, but you can only use it for a certain amount of time, and rules for special events can change how you can get there. Read the City’s most recent instructions on how to park on the Square before moving day: parking rules on the Square.
Permit / right-of-way truth (don’t guess): It’s not a guess that you don’t need a permit for many small home moves that take place in a driveway or private parking lot. But if you need to move things or park a vehicle in a street, sidewalk, or alley inside Georgetown city limits, check the city’s official tools to see if you need a Right-of-Way (ROW) permit: Right of Way Permits and Do I need a ROW permit?

Moving Process in Georgetown, TX

There are usually three steps to moving with Move & Care: getting ready, moving day, and finishing up.

1. Preparation

The next steps depend on the level of service you choose after you request an estimate and pick a date. Packing is the most important factor. Check out our packing service if you need full-service help. To pack yourself, use our packing guide and begin at least a week ahead of time for most homes.

Before the day of the move, we suggest making sure of three things that are unique to Georgetown:

  1. Neighborhood rules and access: When moving into or out of a planned area, homeowners associations (HOAs) and gated neighborhoods may need gate codes, COI requests, or specific move-in hours.
  2. Parking plan: If you’re near Downtown or Square places with time limits, make sure you know where the truck can legally stage. If you need to use public space, use the City links above to find out what ROW permit requirements you need.
  3. Route timing: If your pick-up and drop-off depends on I-35 or important roads like SH 29 or Williams Dr, plan for rush hours and give yourself extra time.

Your move coordinator can help you figure these things out so that the crew arrives with the right tools and plan.

2. The Move

When the moving day comes, our crew shows up at the agreed upon time, makes a list of what is going and what is staying, and then starts protecting the floors and wrapping items. As needed, we take apart furniture, put it onto the truck, and take it to your new home. We can help you plan moving and storage if that’s what you need.

3. After the Move

We’ll unload into the rooms you pick, put together furniture again, and put big things where you want them when we get there. Once everything is in, you’ll go over the move again and make sure it’s done.

About Pricing

There are two main types of Move & Care prices: hourly rates for local moves and flat/route-based pricing for long-distance moves. Time (getting to the truck, stairs, long carries, and packing) and overall inventory are the main things that affect costs. If you need furniture movers Georgetown TX for heavy items or specialty handling like a piano or hot tub, tell us early so the estimate includes the right amount of labor and equipment.

F.A.Q. about moving in Georgetown, TX

Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).

Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.

Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time (we take into account 15 minute increments).

Find out more on our pricing page.

Move and Care provides two types of insurance. Basic insurance (Released Value Protection) - this is free and is included by default in any of our services. Move and Care guarantees liability for no more than 60 cents per pound per item. And Full Value Protection - this insurance means that any damage is fully covered, but there is an additional charge.

The movers will not transport perishable products, nor will they transport any hazardous objects. We also do not transport plants or weapons, and our services do not include animal transportation.
