About North Austin, TX
A big part of the city is called “North Austin.” It has everything from well-established residential streets to high-growth mixed-use roads. We help people move all the time in and around popular places like Crestview, Allandale, Wooten, North Burnet/Gateway (The Domain area), and the Tech Ridge corridor.
North Austin moving logistics: routes, access, and parking
North Austin moves go smoothly most of the time, but the little things count. In the real world, these are the things we plan for:
2–3 route/road realities we plan for
- I-35 in North Austin is an active construction corridor, so route/road realities are important. Work on TxDOT’s I-35 Capital Express North project could change how people can get to and use the area between SH 45 North and US 290 East. If your delivery or pickup needs to be done from a frontage road, we plan our arriving times around that.
- FM 734, or Parmer Lane, is a major North Austin artery. The Parmer Lane (FM 734) Corridor Study by TxDOT talks about how important the corridor is from MoPac (Loop 1) to Cedar Park. This is why the timing and choice of route are important for moves near Parmer and nearby neighborhoods.
- Connections can bottleneck at US 183 (Research Blvd) and MoPac (Loop 1). When there are a lot of stops to make or short delivery windows, we plan our routes to avoid junction congestion and avoid stacking during peak hours whenever we can.
1–2 building-type/access realities common in North Austin
- Apartment and mixed-use neighborhoods, especially those close to major highways, usually have controlled entry gates, parking garages, small turning circles, and few places to load and unload. Before the move day, we’ll ask you to confirm the loading directions, elevator reservations (if needed), and any COI needs.
- Residential streets that have been around for a while may have small driveways, curb competition, and trees that are already big. That changes where a truck can safely park and how we protect floors and stairs while moving big things.
The permit/parking truth in Austin
For many small residential moves in North Austin, you don’t need a City permit as long as you park the truck properly at the curb or in a driveway and don’t block any sidewalks or traffic lanes. The important thing is that you should check the right way to do things with the City ahead of time if you need to reserve curb space, put a moving or storage container in the right of way, or set up legal space control.
- Use the City’s Right of Way Permits: Parking page to learn about the requirements and how to submit your application if you need to reserve curb space for loading and dumping or a temporary storage unit.
- Temporary Use of the Right of Way (TURP) is the process the City uses to handle your move if you need to temporarily use the right of way. This could be because you need to park equipment on part of the street or curb or ask for space control.
If you’re not sure what applies to your neighborhood, give your quote caller your pickup and delivery cross streets. We’ll tell you what to check and how to avoid problems with truck placement at the last minute.
Moving Process in North Austin
There are three parts to moving with Move & Care: getting ready, moving, and cleaning up afterward. Professional construction of a simple structure.
1. Preparation
Get a price and pick a date for your move. The next step is to match services to your schedule.
Packing is the most important choice. If you hire our packing service, we’ll bring the boxes, pack them quickly, and name each room so that unloading is easy. Read our packing advice and start packing at least a week before your move if you’re doing it yourself.
Before you move, you should make sure of the following:
- Rules for the building, such as gates, elevator reservations, loading directions, COI needs, and window times for moving.
- When parking or holding a truck, you need to know where the truck can legally park closest to your door. Check out the City’s Right of Way Parking permit process if you need to officially reserve a curb spot.
- Use our moving checklist to make sure you don’t forget to change your address, pay your bills, or get things you’ll need for the “first night.” Use our moving checklist.
You can also send a message to your boss if you need to. You can move faster and be less surprised if you have a good plan.
2. The Move
Our team shows up at the agreed upon time on moving day, checks your plan, covers important areas, and then gets to work. If packing is part of the service, we do that first. Then, if necessary, we take apart furniture, wrap things in moving blankets, and load with weight distribution in mind.
For routes in North Austin, we also plan the driving part in a way that takes into account reality. This is especially important if your move goes across I-35 or a major interchange or rests on accessing a frontage road during construction.
If you need a place to store things while you move, ask about your choices.
3. After the Move
When we deliver, we unload into the rooms you tell us to, put together furniture again, and put big things where you want them. After that, you do one last check to make sure everything got there safely.
About Pricing
Most of the time, Move & Care charges hourly rates for moves in North Austin and flat rates for moves that go farther (within Texas or across state lines). The written price you get is based on your items, how easy they are to get to (elevators, stairs, long carries), and when you need it. This means you only pay for the move you actually do. Ready to hire movers you can trust in North Austin? Receive a moving cost as a first step.
More About PricingF.A.Q. about moving in North Austin, TX
Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).
Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we
determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the
number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly
rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.
Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be
determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time
(we take into account 15 minute increments).
