Hutto TX Movers

Almost none of Hutto is old housing. By the Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey, 93.9% of the city's homes were built in 2000 or later, and that works in your favor on move day. Subdivisions off SH-130 and US-79 like Emory Crossing, Brooklands and Legends of Hutto have wide residential streets and driveways deep enough to stage a 26-foot truck off the road entirely. Where the driveway takes the truck, the carry is short and the day is shorter with it.

Old Town is the opposite problem, and it is the 4% of the stock built before 1990. Farley Street was rebuilt with twelve-foot sidewalks and on-street angled parking, which is pleasant to walk and unhelpful to a box truck: angled bays are cut for cars, so the truck ends up parallel along the curb line and the crew works around whatever else is parked that morning. We look at the block before we quote it rather than on the day.

Hutto does not issue a moving permit, and you do not need one for a normal residential move. If you have read otherwise, it was wrong. What governs the truck is the city's heavy-vehicle parking rule, not a permit counter.

Hutto's code makes it unlawful to park a truck rated 12,000 lbs GVW or more on a residential street or right-of-way, with an explicit exception while the vehicle is making a bona fide pickup or delivery. A moving truck loading or unloading at your address falls inside that exception. The same truck left at the curb overnight does not, which is why we do not stage trucks in the neighborhood the night before.

Two permits exist that people sometimes confuse with a moving permit. Right-of-Way Management registration ($175 for two years, $100 for one) is for contractors and utility providers working in the right-of-way, not movers. A Special Event Permit ($50) is what you would need to actually close a street or set barricades, which a house move does not require.

One thing we will not guess at: whether a POD or a dumpster left standing in a Hutto street needs its own approval. The city does not publish an answer and we are not going to invent one. Hutto is HOA country, and the HOA is the real gatekeeper here, not the city. Hutto Highlands, Cross Creek, Creek Bend, Legends of Hutto and Hutto Town Square all have associations on file. What none of them publish is a move-in policy, so anyone telling you the standard Hutto HOA rule is making it up. Check your own: Texas associations have to file a management certificate with TREC, and hoa.texas.gov will tell you who your board is and where the governing documents live.

Not every Hutto address is a single-family house either. Villages at Brooklands is 54 townhomes and 22 stacked flats, so shared entries and a full flight of stairs, and The Trails at Carmel Creek is senior apartment residences. Those are the addresses where a certificate of insurance or a booked loading window actually comes up. We issue a COI whenever a property manager asks for one, and we would rather have the request a week out than on the morning.

Star Ranch is worth calling out separately. It sits in Hutto's extraterritorial jurisdiction rather than the city limits, so city services and city rules do not automatically apply there even though the address says Hutto.

Crews start inside Hutto's daytime noise window, which runs 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. That is the reason we are not banging ramps in a subdivision at 6:30.

Hutto ISD runs 17 campuses and has grown about 70% in a decade, so plenty of local moves here get scheduled around the school calendar. In the 2026-27 year the two stretches that cost nobody a school day are fall break, October 12 to 16, 2026, and spring break, March 15 to 19, 2027.

One date to watch downtown: Hutto Olde Tyme Days falls on October 10, 2026 and takes over the Co-Op District and historic downtown. The city publishes no street-closure list ahead of time, so if you are moving in or out of Old Town that Saturday, call the Chamber on 512-759-4400 or pick a different day.

Start the utilities before the truck rather than after it. The city asks for two business days' notice, charges $35 to open or transfer an account, and sets a deposit by soft credit check up to $300. Renters bring ID and the lease for everyone named on it, owners bring ID and the deed or closing papers. An after-hours turn-on costs $75, and if the meter tech arrives to find a tap running they charge $35 to come back, so walk the house and shut everything off first.
