How Much Does It Cost to Move from Los Angeles to Austin?
Every long-distance job is quoted as a single flat rate, so the figure you sign is the figure you pay unless the scope itself changes. What moves that number, roughly in order: how much you actually own, how far the crew has to carry at each end, whether we pack for you, and the date you pick. What does not move it is how long the drive takes. On a flat rate that risk sits with us, which is the main reason this lane is quoted that way rather than by the hour.
What the flat rate covers
The crew, the truck, fuel, tolls, the drive, loading and unloading, furniture padding, and basic released-value protection. Disassembly and reassembly of furniture is quoted with the rest of the job: tell us what comes apart, such as beds, tables and wall units, and it goes into the estimate. The $50 equipment charge is on top.
What is priced separately
These are all things we do, but none of them are automatically in your move. Each one is confirmed in the estimate, and priced there where a charge applies: packing labor (billed hourly), packing materials, unpacking, custom crating, storage, extra stops, hoisting at $40 per item per flight of stairs, items over 200 lbs from $60, an upright piano at $160 or a baby grand at $240, and a Certificate of Insurance where a building requires one. Boxes start at $6.50, tape is $7, shrink wrap is $10.
There is a 5% discount for paying cash. On an interstate move your deposit is refunded in full if you cancel at least 14 calendar days before the scheduled pickup date.
How a Los Angeles to Austin Move Actually Runs
Before the truck comes
The inventory and the price are agreed first, in writing. If you are packing yourself, start with the rooms you use least, and label every box with the room it is going to in Austin rather than the one it came from. Flag pianos, safes, gym equipment, marble tops and anything over 200 lbs while we are still estimating, because those change the crew and the gear, and discovering them on the day costs you money. If we are packing, we normally come a day or two ahead for a full house.
Our crews are not permitted to disconnect water or gas lines, so washers, dryers and gas ranges need disconnecting before we arrive. We also cannot carry flammable liquids, propane or gasoline containers, firearms or explosives. Those travel with you or get disposed of.

Being on site matters more than people expect: the inventory is checked against the estimate at the door, and that is the moment to settle anything that has changed. LA loading is usually decided by the street. A narrow hillside road in Silver Lake or a permit-only block in Santa Monica can mean a long carry, and occasionally a smaller shuttle truck to reach a trailer parked legally nearby, which is priced in the estimate once we know the street.
On the road
Delivery takes at least four days from loading, and the arithmetic behind that is straightforward. It is about 1,380 miles, and federal hours-of-service rules cap a property-carrying driver at 11 hours of driving inside a 14-hour on-duty window, with a 30-minute break after eight hours at the wheel. Loading hours come out of that same window, so the day we load is rarely a full driving day as well. Your shipment travels on our equipment with our people rather than being handed to a third-party line haul. If your dates or your shipment size would mean anything different, we tell you that in the estimate rather than at the curb. Your move coordinator is one point of contact from booking to delivery and can tell you where your shipment is.
Arriving in Austin
We unload, place furniture where you want it, and reassemble what we took apart. Removing the packing debris is confirmed in your estimate. If you have bought unpacking, the crew puts things onto shelves and into closets instead of leaving you a wall of boxes.
Austin access is worth sorting a week out rather than on the day. Downtown and Rainey Street towers, and the newer buildings around the Domain and Mueller, generally want a Certificate of Insurance from the mover and a booked service elevator before a crew gets in. Management offices often reserve those slots days ahead, and some do not allow weekend moves at all. Ask your building for its exact requirements, which usually means the certificate-holder wording, the additional-insured wording, the coverage limits it wants and the email to send it to, then pass those to us early. A certificate holder and an additional insured are not the same thing, and buildings normally want the second, so send us the exact wording yours requires and we will tell you what we can issue before your date. Plenty of buildings ask for none of this. A house in Round Rock or Pflugerville usually just needs a clear driveway.
The Los Angeles to Austin Corridor
The route stays on I-10 as far as the Hill Country, leaves it near Segovia, and finishes on US-290, so the last stretch into Austin is a US highway rather than an interstate. US-290 is the shortest practical way in, which is why we quote a delivery window instead of a delivery date.
Dates matter more on this lane than on most. California is still one of the largest sources of people moving to Texas, but the flow is past its 2022 peak, and net domestic migration into the Austin metro has cooled with it. Growth has shifted outward from Travis County into Williamson and Hays, which is a large part of why so many of our deliveries on this route finish in Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Kyle and San Marcos rather than inside the Austin city limits. Summer is our busiest window in both directions, so if your dates are fixed, book early.
