The road: Mass Pike to I-15

The route we price leaves Boston on the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and follows I-84 for about 230 miles through Connecticut and New York into Pennsylvania. A short run on I-81 reaches I-80, the longest leg: roughly 1,370 miles across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska, with the Ohio Turnpike and the Indiana Toll Road on the way. I-76 brings the truck into Colorado, I-70 carries it about 500 miles over the Rockies and into Utah, and I-15 covers the last 240 miles south to Las Vegas.

Four driving days, then delivery

All of that is about 39 hours of driving. Under FMCSA hours-of-service rules a truck driver may drive 11 hours at most after 10 hours off duty, which makes four days on the road. Delivery is planned for 5 to 8 days after loading.

September to May: chains on I-70

West of Morrison, I-70 climbs into Colorado's mountains. From September 1 to May 31, Colorado's Must Carry Law requires commercial trucks of 16,001 pounds or more to carry chains or approved traction devices on that stretch, and CDOT says trucks without proper traction can close those steep, snowy grades (CDOT). A storm there can push delivery toward the late end of the window. On a move in those months, keep your lease start and utility hookups flexible through the last day of the window, or ask whether storage fits your plan.

A Las Vegas address may not be in Las Vegas

Clark County is six jurisdictions: unincorporated Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and Mesquite. A large part of the valley uses a Las Vegas mailing address while lying in unincorporated county land (Clark County), and in that area Clark County runs the roads; the Strip is county territory too (About Clark County). Look up your new address in the county's Jurisdiction Locator, then take questions about parking the truck to that government. Any permit goes in your name: we can tell you what to ask for, but we do not apply for it.

What to book for delivery

Elevators, loading docks and curb space are yours to reserve at both addresses: in Boston for loading day, and in Las Vegas across the 5 to 8 days window. If the new home sits behind a gate or under an HOA, ask whether movers must be on a gate list or keep to set move-in hours. A condo or apartment building that wants a Certificate of Insurance commonly spells out the holder, the additional insured and the limits; send us that page and we issue the certificate in those words. Stairs and a long walk from the truck shape the estimate, so describe both addresses in your list.
