About Bastrop, TX (and what matters for moving)

Bastrop is a city in Central Texas, east of Austin, that is growing quickly. It is known for its old downtown area near the Colorado River and its newer neighborhoods that are spreading out across Bastrop County. When moving to Bastrop TX, the details often come down to timing of routes, crossing rivers, and rules about where to park trucks in the neighborhood.

🏙️ Local resources: Go to Bastrop and the Bastrop EDC website to learn more about the city.

Named Bastrop sub-areas we commonly move in and around

  • Downtown / Historic District area (which has narrow sidewalks, short blocks, and busy event days). See: Go to Bastrop's downtown area.
  • Tahitian Village is a deed-restricted neighborhood with an active POA. Plan ahead for where to park your truck and the rules of the community: Tahitian Village POA.
  • The Colony is a big, newer neighborhood on the river. Access planning is important because of the long driveways, tight turns, and streets that are still under construction: The Colony.
  • Pine Forest is a HOA community near Bastrop. For information on parking and setting up for move-day, check out the neighborhood rules: Pine Forest POA.
  • Circle D / Circle D-KC Estates is a deed-restricted area in the Lost Pines area near Bastrop. Street width and driveway layout range from section to section: Circle D Civic Association.

Route realities that affect move-day timing

  • Area around SH 71 and the Colorado River bridge: New information from Bastrop County's transportation planning and TxDOT projects shows big changes being made around SH 71 at the Colorado River, such as work on the bridge and changes to how people can get to it. Plan extra time and check the road conditions before your arrival window if your route includes SH 71: TxDOT: SH 71 at the Colorado River.
  • The SH 95 route through Bastrop: This is an important way to get from north to south, but it can get slower during rush hours, when schools let out, and when there are events in downtown Bastrop. Confirming the approach direction can keep bigger trucks from having to make tight turns.
  • Connections on SH 21: This road is often used to get from Bastrop County to nearby towns. The "fastest" path can change depending on the time of day and the number of lanes that are closed. Planning your route is important if you're doing both a neighborhood move and storage stops.

Building and access realities in the Bastrop area

  • Some older homes and downtown blocks have shorter driveways, less room at the curb, and tighter turns. A quick check at the curb to see where the truck can park and how far the carry is can cut down on work time.
  • HOA / deed-restricted neighborhoods: Places like Circle D and Tahitian Village are deed-restricted, and neighborhood rules may limit where you can park or stage your truck on moving day. Know ahead of time if your HOA has a move window or rules about "no trucks on the street."

Parking / permit truth (what to verify)

You don't need a city permit for many small residential moves where the truck can park completely on your own property. But if you need to reserve curb space, stop a travel lane, set up in the street downtown, or put equipment in a public right-of-way, check with the right people ahead of time to make sure you know what they need.

If something isn't clear, we'll lead you to the right office and help you figure out where to park your trucks so your move goes smoothly.

Moving Process in Bastrop, TX

When you move with Move & Care, there are usually three steps: getting ready, moving day, and finishing up. The steps are easy, but how long it takes to load can depend on how you reach Bastrop.

1. Preparation

We'll help you plan the work based on the service level you picked once you've agreed to the price and date.

Packing is the most important factor:

  • When you hire our packing service, we bring the right supplies and pack quickly to keep your things safe for transporting locally or long distance.
  • Use our guide on how to pack for a move if you're going to do it yourself.

Before the day of the move, make sure of these Bastrop-specific details:

  1. Rules for the neighborhood: Some HOAs and deed-restricted neighborhoods don't let people park on the street or have preferred move windows. Tell your move manager about any rules you have, especially if you are moving into a neighborhood like Tahitian Village, Pine Forest, or Circle D.
  2. Access to the street and staging: If the best place for your truck is on a public street, like a block near downtown, check with the city or county tools above to see what kind of right-of-way you need.
  3. Plan your route: If it goes along SH 71 near the river, check TxDOT for changes and add extra time: TxDOT project information.
  4. Checklist: Use our moving checklist to make sure you take care of utilities, keys, and other important things.

2. The Move

Our team shows up at the agreed upon time on moving day. We protect the floors and door frames, take apart furniture as needed, wrap things in moving blankets, and load things in a way that makes them stable. We can plan the stop so that it doesn't cause delays if you need storage.

3. After the Move

We'll unload into the rooms you pick, put together furniture again, and put big things where you want them when we get there. Then you check your things to make sure they are in good shape and that they are complete before we end.

About Pricing

Our prices are based on a simple structure:

  • Local moves (Bastrop and areas less than 150 miles from Austin) happen every hour on average.
  • Long distance movers Bastrop TX (who move things along longer routes in Texas) and interstate movers Bastrop TX usually charge a flat rate based on number of items moved, miles, and services.

What's included in your written quote is the work, the truck, the tools, the protective gear, and the level of service you choose. We make it clear if you need packing or short-term storage so you can keep your budget in check.

F.A.Q. about moving in Bastrop TX

Yes, our moving company is fully licensed for local moves within the state. While interstate movers are regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), local moving companies are regulated by the state. We also have individual state licenses wherever our offices are located: Massachusetts (MC Number: 1018431), North Carolina (NCUC Number: C-3067) and Texas (TXDMV: 009636518C).

Local moves with Move and Care are generated at an hourly rate. When we determine your moving plan, we also determine the approximate labor time and the number of movers needed. The number of movers determines the hourly rate. If your move is large, more movers means faster work and lower cost.

Your quota will give you an approximate cost of the job, the actual cost will be determined by the actual time spent, which may take a little less or a little more time (we take into account 15 minute increments).

Move and Care provides two types of insurance. Basic insurance (Released Value Protection) - this is free and is included by default in any of our services. Move and Care guarantees liability for no more than 60 cents per pound per item. And Full Value Protection - this insurance means that any damage is fully covered, but there is an additional charge.

The movers will not transport perishable products, nor will they transport any hazardous objects. We also do not transport plants or weapons, and our services do not include animal transportation.
